Bosch Partners with GMR Group, Aiming to Deploy 7.5 Million Smart Meters

Bosch and GMR’s smart metering project focuses on modernizing electricity distribution in India
- Utilizes GMR’s expertise in infrastructure management and Bosch’s expertise in IoT and connected products
- Aims to deploy around 7.5 million smart meters in a few Indian cities

Bangalore, India: Bosch has announced a significant strategic partnership with GMR Group to advance the smart metering infrastructure in the Indian cities of Agra, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. Under this Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) arrangement, Bosch will invest a 10% stake, while GMR Group will hold the remaining 90%. The collaboration aims to deploy approximately 7.5 million smart meters, modernizing electricity distribution and improving efficiency.
The project envisions Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) implementing around 5 million smart meters and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL) installing an estimated 2.5 million meters.
“This collaborative initiative marks the convergence of GMR Group’s robust infrastructure capabilities with SDS’s cutting-edge IoT and digital capabilities,” said Kaushik Sarkar, board member at SDS and CFO of Bosch Global Software Technologies. “Together, we aspire to redefine the landscape of electricity distribution in Agra, Varanasi, and Prayagraj by introducing state-of-the-art solutions that will significantly elevate the overall efficiency of the DISCOMs.”
This partnership leverages Bosch’s expertise in IoT and connected products and GMR’s expertise in infrastructure management to connect smart meters to cloud and IT infrastructure, enhancing the electricity distribution infrastructure by integrating advanced technology.
